On September 8, 1987 the beloved pope, St. John Paul II, arrived at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to begin a historic visit to the area. Staying at Archbishop Szoka's Residence in the Boston-Edison District, he traveled to Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Hamtramck, Ford Auditorium and Hart Plaza, where he spoke on topics that touched our lives and hearts. He completed his tour on September 19th at the Pontiac Silverdome where thousands joined with him in celebrating the sacrifice of the Mass.
